DURGOTSAV 2026

Celebrating with The Bengali community in Poland

The Story of Warsaw’s First Durga Puja

The seeds of Durga Puja in Poland were sown in 2014, when a small group of dreamers — Sinhada, Paromita & Pradipto Maulik, Raj and his wife Paramita, Sambho, Santanu Roy, Anindya & Tania Bhowmik — gathered casually at the home of Pradipto Maulik. In their hearts, they shared one vision: to bring the sacred festival of Maa Durga to Warsaw, far away from the soil of Bengal.

That same year, the group travelled to Cologne, Germany, to witness a Durga Puja abroad and learn the procedures. Inspired and determined, they resolved to begin with a Bijoya Sammilani in Warsaw for Bengalis in Poland — as a first step toward their larger dream.

Though the intention was to hold a full-fledged Puja in 2015, circumstances delayed the plan. Finally, in 2017, the core team — Sinhada, Santanu Roy, Paromita & Pradipto Maulik — together with the immense support of many others, including Sanjay Sharma, Bidyut Saha, Pinaki Mukherjee, Sayanjit Guha, and Soumik Bhodok with his wife — brought the vision to life.

This year’s Puja is the 9th year of celebration.

Our Reviews

Attending Warsaw’s Durga Puja feels like being transported back to Kolkata! The rituals are performed with so much devotion, and the cultural evenings are always a treat. It makes me proud to see how beautifully our tradition has grown here in Poland. Can’t wait for this year’s Puja — especially Sindoor Khela and Bijoya Sammilani!

This Puja is more than just a festival — it is a family reunion for Bengalis in Poland. The first time I offered Pushpanjali here, I felt the same peace I get at home in Bengal. Every year it becomes grander, but still keeps the warmth and inclusiveness that makes it special. Truly grateful to the organisers.

What I love about Warsaw’s Durga Puja is the openness. It’s not only for Bengalis — Indians from all states, and even our Polish friends, join with equal enthusiasm. The dhunuchi naach, Rabindra Sangeet, and bhajans create such a festive spirit. It feels like home away from home.

I have been part of this Puja since 2018, and I’ve watched it grow from a small gathering to one of the most important cultural events in Poland. The organisers put their heart into every detail — from Kumari Puja to Sandhi Puja. For us Bengalis in Warsaw, it’s not just an event, it’s our emotional connection with Maa Durga.
